Making barbecues and barbecues from brick: drawings, diagrams, procedures. How to make a barbecue grill with your own hands from brick: step-by-step instructions Do-it-yourself grill with a brick stove

In our guide, we will tell you how to make an outdoor grill and barbecue oven out of brick yourself. Step-by-step instructions with photos of the construction process will help you understand the details of the independent masonry of this structure.

As a result, you should have a barbecue grill as shown in the photo below.

So, you have decided on the type of grill, its size and location. Now you need to build a foundation for it.

Usually such buildings are made on the street, in a gazebo or on a terrace. If the foundation of the gazebo or terrace can support the weight of a brick stove, which is about 3 tons, then you can start construction right away. If you are going to build a barbecue from scratch, then first of all pour a suitable foundation for it: strip or tile.

You will find instructions for building such foundations in our section ““.

The next step will be to install waterproofing under the brick grill. This is done to prevent the lower bricks from getting wet by capillary suction. It will be enough to lay a roll of roofing felt or waterproofing material. At the end of construction, cut off the excess with a knife.

DIY brick barbecue grill. Step-by-step instructions with photos.

Let's proceed directly to laying the barbecue.

We recommend that you first lay out the first row of bricks without mortar and evaluate how your future structure fits onto the foundation. Do not forget to leave 1 cm gaps between the bricks. Also check the diagonals, they must match.

After this, you can start laying the barbecue. The facing brick is placed on a cement-sand mortar (cement-sand ratio 1:3). To make the mortar plastic, add lime or a special masonry plasticizer from the nearest hardware store. The seams are made with dimensions of 8-10 mm, for this they use a metal rod, reinforcement, etc. In places where bricks abut without ligation, the masonry is reinforced with perforated tape, wire, etc.

We make masonry with each subsequent row offset by half a brick. To cut bricks you will need a grinder with a stone disc.

We continue to lay out the barbecue grill.

Do not forget to check the verticality of the masonry in the corners at least every 3 rows. Also, check that the lengths of the diagonals of the grill match.

We continue laying.

After you have completed 8 rows of masonry, it is time to make lintels for the barbecue and table top. They should look like the ones shown in the photo below.

You can make such jumpers in several ways.

First, you can hold the bricks together with metal pins and mortar.

Secondly, you can use metal corners.

In our case, we used the second method. We stacked the corners together in an inverted T shape and sawed off half of the shelf. This is what happened.

Take a corner with a size of at least 45x45 mm. A smaller corner will sag. But don’t take it too big so that it doesn’t protrude beyond the edges of the brick.

Make the slot in the brick with a good margin so that the metal does not tear the masonry when heated.

This shelf is invisible to the eye, reliable and beautiful.

We begin to lay it out under (the bottom) of the grill. For the firebox we use refractory fireclay bricks. We do the masonry using a ready-made fireproof mixture from a building supermarket made of clay and sand. Can be used mortar. We make the seams as thin as possible, approximately 3-4 mm.

We use corners to support the bottom of the grill. Remember to leave at least 1 cm of space between the ends of the corners and the brick. This way you will protect the masonry from cracking when the corner expands.

On the first row of the bottom of the firebox we place the second row, covering all the seams of the first. This will prevent the seams from burning out and coals from getting onto the firewood in the firewood box from below. You can, of course, pour a concrete slab instead of the corners and the first row of the firebox. But in our case it was cheaper and faster to do it this way.

If you are pouring a concrete floor, then one row of refractory bricks for the bottom of the firebox will be enough.

We continue to lay out the walls of the grill.

The laying of facing bricks and fireboxes can be done either in parallel or alternately. You can first make the walls of the firebox, and then cover it with facing bricks.

Important! We leave a gap of 1 cm between the facing and refractory bricks. The firebox and the cladding should not touch.

We lay the next rows of the barbecue oven.

We are approaching the moment of constructing the combustion arch. We make a circle (an arc structure made of wood) and install it in the barbecue portal. Then we lay the arch, cutting the bricks to the required size. We place a brick castle in the middle of the top point. The arch is ready.

Note! The arch made of face brick is covered from the inside with a lintel made of fireclay brick. It is placed on a metal corner slightly above the top of the arch so that it is not noticeable. It looks like this.

The arch is assembled, we continue to remove the walls of the barbecue grill.

Don't forget to check the verticality of the masonry.

We are approaching the moment of constructing the smoke collector.

We bring the top of the firebox and the lining to one level and begin to lay out the smoke collector. The masonry is made from solid brick of a grade not lower than M150. Place it on a cement-sand mortar. We place the first row flush with the inner wall of the firebox. We lay the remaining rows offset by about a third of the brick.

Do not move the bricks more than halfway, otherwise they will fall inside the firebox.

We lay the smoke collector until there is no hole left for the chimney measuring 27x27 cm, taking into account the seams. Your chimney size may differ from ours. In this case, make a smoke collector according to the size of your chimney.

Some stove makers cut off the inner edges of the bricks so that the smoke collector is smooth from the inside. We did not notice any differences in operation between the smooth and ribbed inner surface of the smoke collector. Of course, this is only true if you have maintained the correct proportions between the dimensions of the portal - smoke collector - pipe (read about proportions below).

This is what the smoke collector looks like without trimmed bricks from the inside.

We continue laying the pipe. Its dimensions depend on the size of your barbecue grill.

After finishing the chimney laying, we cover it with a cap to protect the firebox from precipitation.

We successfully built a barbecue grill, aka a brick barbecue oven, with our own hands! Wait until the solution dries and you can do a test run.

Here we will look at the most frequently asked questions about laying a brick barbecue (grill) with your own hands and the answers to them.

What size should the smoke collector be?

The size of the smoke collector depends on the size of the firebox portal. The optimal ratio should be at least 100-120%. So in our step-by-step instructions, the height of the portal is 6 rows, and the height of the smoke collector is 8 rows.

How tall should the pipe be?

The height of the pipe is proportional to the height of the smoke collector and is at least 100-120% of its height.

What diameter should the chimney be?

The cross-section of the chimney pipe depends on the area of the firebox portal. The optimal chimney area is 1/8 - 1/10 of the portal area. Extreme sizes from 1/6 to 1/13.

How to fill the gap between the firebox and the lining?

In front, around the portal, you can fill the gap with basalt cardboard. There is no point in filling the rest of the space. Therefore it is left empty.

Do I need to paint the metal corner in the lintels?

Barbecue (grill) - DIY brick barbecue. Step-by-step video instructions.

The dream of every summer resident is to build a gazebo on his property, and install in it a beautiful stove with many functions, such as a barbecue, a brazier, a stove, an oven and others. And I want it and at the same time I’m scared. What if it doesn't work out. In fact, there is nothing complicated here. The most important condition is that you have a passionate desire to build a barbecue oven and the availability of the necessary building material to build this oven.

Any work begins with a project. The easiest thing is to sit down yourself and draw out the order of your future masterpiece on a piece of notebook paper. There is nothing complicated here. The most important thing is to remember a few main conditions:

  1. The height of the combustion chamber is 4 rows of masonry.
  2. The height of the grill is 3 rows of masonry.
  3. The height of the fireplace is 6 rows of masonry.
  4. The casing in which the chimneys are combined occupies three rows of masonry in height.

In addition, the barbecue is installed outdoors, which means there is no need to monitor the correct passage of the chimneys for better heat transfer. It is enough to simply remove the exhaust gases into the pipe. And straighten all chimney passages as much as possible.

The photo above is what we must build as a result of our actions. And the beginning of these actions was once outlined on a piece of paper.

Preparation of materials

The barbecue oven will be located on the street, albeit under a roof, but, nevertheless, it is precisely this fact that makes it necessary to use a brick of a grade no lower than M-250 during its construction. The fact is that sometimes these devices are operated at air temperatures below – 25 degrees, and this is a gigantic “physical stress” for brick structures - rapid heating and then rapid cooling.

The total quantity of this brick, taking into account pipe laying, is 1500 pcs. Fireclay (fireproof) brick is required for use when laying fireboxes and in other places where there is contact with flames from burning wood. This brick can withstand a combustion temperature of 1000 degrees, and an ordinary brick no more than 450 degrees. By the way, you yourself can determine the heating temperature of the body by the color of the heated surface, and decide which brick to use. If the iron bar located at the top point of the flame turns dark red - the temperature is 350 0C, Red - 400 0C, if its color is bright red - 450 - 500 0C, if red turns into a white tint - 550 and higher. Usually this color occurs when air is forced to be pumped into the furnaces of melting crucibles, and if it is dazzling white - 700 0C and above.

As can be seen from these data, ordinary brick will not survive in the furnace for more than several seasons, and if the stove is laid out on the street, then even less. As a solution, we will use an aqueous solution of two types of stove mixture - a regular one for laying walls and a fireproof one for laying fireboxes, barbecues and fireplace walls.

Lay out the barbecue oven

The entire area of the outdoor gazebo will be located on a monolithic concrete slab, reinforced with reinforcing bars. Therefore, it makes no sense to lay out an additional foundation. All we need to do is spread a sheet of roofing material folded in half across the width for waterproofing and start laying.

The linear dimensions of the barbecue are 250 cm long and 80 cm wide.

We lay out the starting row in order to identify deviations in the horizontality of the future furnace design. In the second row we correct errors by leveling with a solution, and in the third row we plan to lay ash pans for the combustion chambers of both the cooking plate and the cauldron.

Furnace work is a rather dirty process, so we keep all consumables on special pallets.

To ensure the normal masonry process, it is necessary to have water, the required amount of oven mixture and electricity to turn on the electrical appliances necessary for construction work.

We will fix the barbecue fittings using oven fastening tape, by laying them in the masonry and securing them with self-tapping screws.

The ash door is installed in place, the bottom row of strips is laid in the order, the top row is straightened and will now be secured.

A simple but very effective method of fixing tape in masonry. The next rad will fall “in a run-up” and the seam will be covered by the middle of the brick of the next row and the self-tapping screw will be securely pressed into the masonry.

We decided not to make the sides of the barbecue rectangular. They look much more impressive if they are rounded. This process is quite dirty, so it is advisable to do it before starting work, having prepared in advance the required amount of bricks - blanks for corners and other decorative elements.

Pay attention to the corners of the stove - they are lined with rolled ceramic bricks, and to the organization of the ash pan. The corners of the brick are cut at an angle of 45 degrees. This greatly simplifies the natural shedding of ash into the ash pan.

All bricks are cut to size using a ceramic cutting wheel using a grinder, but under no circumstances are they chipped with a pick.

The right ash pan for the combustion chamber is ready. There is a queue for his twin brother - the ash pit for the firebox under the cauldron.

In parallel with the ash pans, niches are laid out for storing firewood and for storing working tools for servicing the barbecue. To make it more decorative, we decided to push ¼ of the brick out.

The grate will be laid on two metal corners placed in grooves - in the front in the masonry seam, and in the back in a special slot.

Shrinkage of bricks is carried out only with a rubber mallet. This tool does not damage the masonry and at the same time gently sets the brick in place.

Pay attention to the air gap between the fireclay and ceramic bricks in the masonry of the combustion chamber. This place is intended for basalt cardboard and reliable thermal insulation against overheating of ceramic bricks. The thickness of basalt cardboard must be at least 5 mm.

We place the basalt cardboard in the groove and then put the grate in place.

The basalt cardboard should be equal in height to the height of the combustion chamber, therefore, so that it does not interfere with the process of raising the walls of the firebox, we slightly press it outward. There is a very high probability of crushing it. Then it will lose its thermal protective properties and will not perform its intended functions.

Next to the firebox for the cauldron we will install a special chamber for obtaining coals for the barbecue. This is an iron, homemade box in which logs are placed, set on fire, and the access of air to them is limited by the firebox door, and in such a simple way, producing coals both for the barbecue and for cooking on the firebox for a cauldron.

The chamber for receiving coal is being fitted.

All doors in the barbecue can be opened with the left hand. Because the right one is much more convenient to use a poker and a scoop. If you are left-handed, then think about this little thing in advance, which can then grow into big problems.

A metal box for coals must be wrapped in basalt cardboard to protect ceramic bricks from contact with it during its operation.

When laying fittings, be sure to measure its verticality using a special building level for furnace work. It has magnetic properties and attaches to iron surfaces, thereby freeing your hands from having to hold it.

The cauldron that we are going to use for preparing various oriental dishes has a volume of 22 liters. It is very large in diameter, so we did not find a ready-made slab with such an opening for it and decided to make the slab ourselves. We took a 10 mm thick metal sheet as a surface, marked it, found the middle and drew a circle with a compass. The easiest way to cut steel of this thickness is using an autogen. To do this, we simply went to an auto repair shop that does body and tin work, and there, in 20 minutes, they cut a hole to our size in the center, as well as along the perimeter of the sheet.

The hob under the cauldron is ready and will withstand all cooking incidents. There is a huge disadvantage - excessively large mass.

It is necessary to install such a massive thing only on masonry that has already set, and as further actions showed, premature operations with its installation led to redoing part of the barbecue masonry.

Let's start laying the firebox for the hob

The main task is to lay fireclay bricks in the internal space of the combustion chamber. In order not to reduce the volume of the firebox, I recommend laying refractory bricks on the edge. This way, the internal space of the firebox will be used less and thereby speed up the cooking process.

It started to rain outside, and we covered the newly laid furnace masonry.

We install the door on the firebox and fasten it according to the same principle as the door of the blower, only we do not use twisted wire, but screw the stove fastening tape onto the 8-mm wrench bolts. I especially recommend doing this procedure for the upper door fastenings. They are the ones who experience very high heating temperatures when wood burns.

Despite the desire to quickly complete the construction of a barbecue oven, it is better not to work in the dark. The flaws in the masonry order are not visible.

The next day we began installing the ceiling over the woodshed and a place for tools. If this part of the furnace does not experience thermal loads, then the best option is to use paired metal corners with a cross-section of 50 mm. This width allows you to lay the brick so that it protrudes above the edge of the corner and thereby ensures the ability to lay the brick without defects.

We lay the corners in such a way that there is an overlap of at least 5 cm on the masonry on the vertical posts at each corner.

A prerequisite for paired corners is to grab them by welding to each other. During the period of soil movement, there is a possibility that the concrete slab may “play” and if the corners are not stuck to each other, then part of the ceiling may move out of place, but part will remain. The first row of masonry rests on one corner, the second and third rows rest on two corners, and the last row, just like the first, only on one corner.

It is necessary to adjust the total length of the rows for the ceiling so that the bricks do not protrude beyond the edges of the ceiling. The easiest way to cut the length of a brick is using a cutting wheel. In addition, the outer row of bricks will protrude ¼ of the way, forming a decorative protrusion.

After the ceiling is laid out, we proceed to forming the “hearth” of the barbecue and laying the corner base under the slab for the cauldron.

We lay out “UNDER” the grill using fireclay bricks. Look at the left side of the photo. On the bricks, grooves were drawn with a construction pencil for laying the slab for the cauldron.

We lay the bricks for the slab dry, after marking out the place for the groove, remove them and use a cutting wheel to make a groove 15 mm deep. 10 mm is required for planting a metal plate and 5 mm is required for laying basalt cardboard. After the bricks for the slab are prepared, we lay them on the mortar, lay the basalt cardboard and then, together with a partner, lay the slab itself. Carefully press the slab into the groove with a rubber mallet.

Laying the slab in the groove. It is necessary to lay down with the utmost care, the masonry has not yet set.

We install the cauldron, check the tightness of the installation and then “dry” lay out a row of bricks on the right edge of the slab. We measure the required length of the brick cut for the row. Only after this we lay the row on the solution.

After this procedure is completed, we proceed to laying the back wall of the barbecue. She plays two roles. The first is to impart lateral rigidity to the entire structure, and it is also a kind of screen from prying eyes from the street.

In the same way as we laid the stove for the cauldron, we lay out the hob in the same way.

We raise the walls of the grill. Its width is 30 cm. There will be no open flame, only coals, so it is enough to lay out the “under” of fireclay bricks, and raise the walls from ordinary ceramic bricks. At the same time we lay out the base of the fireplace. All chimneys run along the back wall of the barbecue; it is above the fireplace that they converge into one chimney.

We lay out the “UNDER” and the walls of the fireplace from fireclay bricks; there will be an open flame here, so this part of the barbecue cannot be made of ceramic bricks.

We lay out the inner walls of the fireplace, placing the brick on edge. The masonry mortar must be made only from a special thermal mixture that can withstand temperature changes.

All wall defects can be corrected directly during the masonry process, but done with the utmost care.

A fireplace cover can be made using a metal corner. And then make a strapping for strength.

Do not forget the rule - be sure to lay basalt cardboard between fireclay and ceramic bricks. This is a prerequisite for the longevity of the fireplace.

The fireplace has no upper vault. Its role is played by the masonry tapering on each row (1/4 brick minus). Also, behind the third row of fireclay bricks, chimneys emerge from below and then the air flow goes into the pipe.

The finished barbecue oven is pictured at the beginning of the article. It turned out beautiful and functional!

The concepts of barbecue and barbecue are often confused, since they are built for cooking with smoke and coals. But a barbecue is needed to prepare barbecue, and a barbecue grill is a method of cooking food over an open fire using a grate.

Ordinary grill can be turned into a barbecue by attaching a grill to it.

BBQ oven There are mobile and stationary, the sizes depend on the functions performed. The simplest furnace is built in dimensions 0.18*0.07*0.9 m, resembles a regular grill with a grate.

A slightly improved barbecue is built with space for a hob, its dimensions are 1.7*0.4*1.9 m. simplest furnace complex has dimensions 1.2*2.2*1.9 m.

Stoves are offered for construction with a cauldron, barbecue, stove, and other accessories for cooking on coals. All you have to do is choose the project that suits your needs. We will tell you in detail in this article about how to build a brick barbecue with your own hands. Drawings and photos of some projects are attached. Well, the dimensions of a brick barbecue, drawings and photographs of other stove models can be found on the adjacent pages of our website.

Why build an outdoor brick barbecue with your own hands?

Modern variety of outdoor slabs does not allow you to choose a single model - you want to take an element from each project. Building a barbecue oven in the garden out of brick with your own hands allows you to combine them into one ideal oven on your site.

Photo 1. A small, highly aesthetic garden barbecue oven made of brick with a barbecue and a work table. Building such a simple barbecue stove with your own hands from brick and stone is easy and quick, especially if there are special instructions for laying a barbecue with a barbecue.

TO advantages of a brick kiln own construction include the following advantages:

  • the ability to create your own project;
  • a stove built in this way will stationary— it will not be stolen, even if the owners of the site are absent for a long time;
  • confidence in the materials and durability of the assembled stove;
  • laying a barbecue is so simple that a person without stove maker experience can master it;
  • giving the area a classic style or country style;
  • creating a reason to be proud of your friends.

What are the designs of a brick barbecue and kebab oven?

The main projects for building a barbecue for a brick cottage are divided into 3 types:

  • without pipe- a simple oven, reminiscent of a barbecue, requiring minimal construction costs;
  • with pipe— an improved stove, in which when cooking food the smoke will not be scattered by the wind in different directions;
  • with pipe and hob- for the possibility of preparing first courses, for example, soups, borscht, fish soup.

The best option is to create stoves with pipe without stove, because most often the company gathers to eat hot kebabs with equally hot drinks.

The pipe in the stove design will protect vacationers from the random dispersion of smoke and flying ash particles.

Building a brick barbecue: cost estimate

One of the first stages of the project implementation is the calculation of the material that will be needed to build the stove. Garden barbecues for the dacha have many diagrams showing how to make this or that structure, and some of them also have instructions. Here it is especially convenient to determine in advance the volume of required building materials.

Calculation of the amount of ordinary bricks for a building stoves with pipe(by rows): 38+10.5+10.5+10.5+10.5+33+33.5+13+13+13+13+35+35+9+9+9+9+9 +9+9+9+18+26+22+20+12+10+9+7+5+5 = 474.5 pcs.

  • ordinary Red brick 1st grade - 474.5 pcs.;

Calculation of the amount of refractory bricks for laying firebox(starting from row 14): 7+7+7.5+7.5+7+7.5+7+3 = 53.5 pcs.

  • fire brick to create a firebox - 53.5 pcs.;
  • concrete mortar for pouring the foundation or its mixture of water, sand, crushed stone, cement in a ratio of 4:4:4:1;
  • metal pipe 15-20 cm in diameter - 1 pc.;
  • board for formwork formation - 1 pc.;
  • coarse sand— 17 kg;
  • reinforcement mesh— 2 m;
  • sheet metal- 1 PC.;
  • table top- 1 PC.;
  • oven grate for collecting coals - 1 pc.;
  • silicone and heat resistant sealant for sealing masonry cracks - 1 tube;
  • facing material.

Before proceeding to the construction phase, check availability tools:

  • shovel;
  • building level;
  • rope;
  • roulette;
  • hammer.

Such tools are so simple that it is difficult to find an alternative to use them.

Attention! When building a stove, you will need halves of bricks - these can be made using a grinding machine.

We select and prepare a site for construction

The place where you can build a barbecue oven with your own hands is selected based on comfort and fire safety. On at a distance of 3-4 meters from the stove Trees, bushes and grass should not grow. If extensions, a bathhouse, or other buildings are built on the site, the stove must be built at a distance. The predominant direction of the wind should not be towards one’s own or neighbors’ buildings.

Photo 2. An impromptu place to relax with a barbecue in the garden thickets. Surely you have a corner on your property where a brick barbecue would fit perfectly. The photo does not allow us to estimate the size of the site, but even a small oven will look better than such a scorched piece of land.

If we discuss the comfort of using future cooking in an outdoor oven, it is most convenient to place the structure next to relaxation area- patio, gazebo, terrace. If there are no such places on the site, you can choose any place for the barbecue, and place a table with chairs nearby. Keep in mind that you will need a lot of water and firewood for cooking and maintaining the stove. The size of the furnace working area is selected depending on financial capabilities and the size of the area.

  • located on the leeward side of a residential building. Otherwise, smoke will enter the house, penetrating inside and leaving traces of soot outside;
  • It is undesirable to have plants next to a brick barbecue - their vital functions will be disrupted due to high temperatures.

Once a location has been chosen, you should prepare platform for the furnace area. The soil is cleared of the fertile layer: grass, bushes, trees. It is allowed to remove trees from your site without the consent of local authorities, provided that there are no environmental restrictions.

Attention! Remember that roots left in the ground can sprout, damaging the flooring of the stove area.

Usually, during planning and clearing an area for future construction, coniferous and fruit trees are planted. After this you can go to the stage of pouring the foundation according to the shape and size suggested by your chosen barbecue drawing diagram.

Construction of a brick barbecue

A stove on a personal plot, no matter what type it is, is a rather intricate structure and requires a certain amount of knowledge. Therefore, for everyone who decided to build a barbecue for their dacha with their own hands, step-by-step instruction, which is given on this page of the site, is simply necessary. If laying barbecue stoves by hand is a process unfamiliar to you, you are unlikely to be able to lay even the first row of brickwork without such instructions.

Before starting construction, it is advisable to carry out an approximate drawing to calculate the required amount of materials and proper construction of the structure.

Stove makers with extensive experience do not use a drawing for masonry (they already know by heart how to lay a brick barbecue with their own hands).

If you are not a specialist, in addition to the usual drawing, you will also need order brick barbecue, masonry drawings or detailed barbecue masonry diagram.

Any barbecue oven is built from brick in layers - one row of bricks after another. The number of bricks in each row is not the same and they can be folded differently. To know exactly how to build a brick barbecue with your own hands and not confuse anything, you need drawings with order. Even a novice stove maker, having such drawings in hand, is sure that designs for arranging barbecue stoves will help avoid gross mistakes during construction.

How to make barbecue stoves for a brick cottage: foundation (step by step)

The heavy weight of a brick kiln requires a solid foundation. Equally suitable tape And monolithic foundation. We will use the recommendations of furnace specialists and give preference to the monolithic option.

Attention! It is best to pave the work area around the stove.

So, let's start building a barbecue with our own hands - step-by-step instructions for pouring the foundation:

  • digs a pit the size of 1.5*2 m with a depth of up to 0.4 m.
  • the bottom is leveled using a shovel;
  • a layer of sand is poured 10 cm thick, filled with a small volume of water, compacted;
  • wooden formwork fastened with self-tapping screws is installed;
  • reinforcement mesh is laid;
  • the foundation is poured with concrete mortar;
  • leave for a week until hardened.

Attention! When stirred, air accumulates in the solution, which reduces the strength of the structure. To eliminate air, you need to make holes in the uncured concrete.

Brick barbecue laying: base

The base on which the entire structure of the stove will be installed is the first stage from which the laying of a brick barbecue begins. The step-by-step instructions that we provide here should help avoid mistakes due to which the entire structure may ultimately be unsuitable for use.

Attention! At the stage of laying out a barbecue with your own hands, grade 1 red burnt bricks and cement mortar are used step by step.

After the foundation has hardened, it is carefully studied for presence of cracks. They need to be sealed and wait until they harden.

Next, it is marked furnace circuit. Experts recommend stretching the cord between pieces of reinforcement inserted into the corners. Bricks are laid along the cord, greased with cement mortar and layer 2 is laid, starting with half a brick.

You should check the evenness of the masonry using a level.

Attention! Tap the top and side of each brick with a hammer - this strengthens the adhesion of the building materials.

The charcoal grate is placed on the second row. Apply the mortar to the end of the brick to increase the reliability of the masonry.

Subsequent rows will begin with half brick. Next, 5 rows of bricks are laid according to the presented scheme. Starting from the 6th, it will be located oven tray- a small protrusion is made here. 3 rows are laid according to the pattern, and a new ledge for kiln table basics.

Advice! Select the height of the oven and table based on ease of use. You can be free with the number of initial rows - they do not in any way affect the strength and reliability of the structure.

Laying a barbecue stove: firebox

Attention! At this stage, you will need 2 types of bricks - regular red and fireproof, a solution of clay and sand. The bricks will be laid out in 2 rows - the outer one made of red brick, the inner one made of fireclay. The bottom of the firebox should also be lined with refractory bricks.

Reason for firebox And table tops done in the form of a screed. The boards are laid out one brick thick, cut to the size of the span. The top is filled with concrete mortar and left for 5 days.

The height of this part of the stove depends on its shape: 9 bricks for a rectangular one, 7 for an arched one. Depth - up to 70 cm. The pipe is removed after several rows.

Photo 3. The process of building a brick barbecue is underway. The photo was taken at the stage when the laying of the barbecue stove was almost ready and the construction of the woodshed was completed. Another module is at the stage of laying the first row of bricks.

Attention! To remove the chimney, the area of the masonry is gradually reduced, each row is reduced by half a brick in length and ¼ in width. From the 7th row, pipe laying with a height of up to 13 rows will begin.

Chimney laying

Attention! Red brick and cement mortar are used at this stage.

The chimney in a brick barbecue located in a gazebo is bought at a hardware store or welded from sheet material. To seal the free space between the pipe and the furnace, use heat resistant sealant. The gazebo must have a fireproof opening for the chimney outlet.

Important! A cap is placed on the upper end of the pipe to create proper draft and protect the furnace from precipitation that could impair its functionality.

It’s easier to buy a tabletop in a store, attaching it to a created ledge silicone sealant. To do it yourself, you need to plaster with cement and trim the surface with tiles or stone after installing the slab.

Decorating a stove with a pipe

After removing the chimney, you can take care of the appearance of the barbecue. To do this, decorate the kebab and barbecue ovens with your own hands: lay out the floor covering with non-slip material, for example, porcelain stoneware. In this case, special glue is used. They go over the facade with a grinding machine and clean it with a brush to remove any remaining solution. You can use tiles or wild stone to improve the aesthetic appearance of the structure.

Additional attributes

To increase the comfort of relaxation next to an outdoor stove, it is advisable to take care of additional attributes.

To decorate the site and make it possible to have a cozy time in the evening, you should supply electricity and perform table lighting, hearth, space under the roof, boundaries of a recreation area or site.

You can completely place the stove with a chimney in a glassed-in gazebo and cook delicious kebabs all year round, or mount a canopy for basic protection from precipitation.

A table, benches or chairs are purchased or created as furniture for relaxation. Designers It is not recommended to buy cheap plastic furniture- it will spoil the atmosphere of outdoor cooking and may cause a fire. It is better to give preference to forged, wooden, wicker furniture in natural colors.

Fire safety

Remember to follow fire safety regulations. Nobody wants to interrupt their vacation to call the fire department and eliminate the consequences of a fire in nearby objects.

Rules for installing a stove to prevent fire:

  • need for construction on a solid foundation;
  • finishing with metal sheets or other non-flammable floor material in front of the stove;
  • placement at a decent distance from flammable substances, trees, bushes, buildings.

Photo 5. A set of imported fire extinguishers of various sizes. For fire safety purposes, any brick barbecue oven must be equipped with one of these items: the photo demonstrates how rich a choice a dacha owner has.

Operating rules:

  • when the oven is idle, it is covered cover so that precipitation does not disrupt functionality;
  • protect children from being close to the stove;
  • do not leave the stove lit, especially with food, unattended.

Do you like to cook kebabs and other food outdoors, but still don’t have your own barbecue? We invite you to correct the current situation right now! After studying the following instructions, you will learn in what sequence a full-fledged garden stove is laid out, and the presented diagrams will help you thoroughly understand all the nuances of the technology.

Materials for building an outdoor stove

Start by preparing your materials. You will need:

  • . You don’t need much of it, so you can prepare it yourself;
  • boards for constructing formwork. An unedged board is perfect;
  • fittings Needed to strengthen the foundation. You can use unnecessary metal products - cuttings of channels, thick wire, strips of steel, etc.;
  • edged boards. From these boards you will build formwork for a concrete screed under the tabletop;
  • bricks. You will need simple ceramic and refractory products;
  • iron pipe with a diameter of about 150 mm;
  • foundation waterproofing material. Ruberoid is usually used;
  • mixer;
  • sink. A metal sink is best for a garden stove;
  • rubber hose.

Select the required amount of starting materials in accordance with the selected dimensions of the future furnace.

Prepare a stove design. This guide walks you through the process of building a complete food preparation unit complete with a cutting countertop and sink. If you don't need a sink and table, simply exclude the steps associated with arranging them from the instructions.

Choose a suitable location for. First of all, you should be comfortable using the oven.

Important! If tall trees grow near the selected site, make sure that their branches will not be in close proximity to the future chimney. Otherwise, prune the branches or they will burn.

The stove should not be adjacent to any buildings with its rear wall. During operation of the barbecue, the brick will become very hot, which will not have the best effect on the condition of the adjacent buildings - they may simply burn out.

Arrangement of the foundation for a barbecue oven

The oven will have a relatively small mass. It will be perfectly supported by a reinforced foundation with a thickness of about 20 cm. M100 concrete is optimal for pouring.

First step. Mark the area for the foundation. Do this using pegs (metal rods, pipe scraps) and twine (cord, rope, etc.).

Second step. Dig a pit around the perimeter of the base. The recommended depth is about 30-35 cm. Be sure to leave a 5-centimeter margin for the width of the hole.

Third step. Fill the bottom of the recess and compact it thoroughly.

Fourth step. Make formwork. To make it more convenient, first assemble boards 30-35 cm wide from boards. Select the length according to the size of the sides of the base. Install the formwork elements around the perimeter of the pit.

Fifth step. Place the reinforcement in the formwork. It is best to use steel rods with a diameter of 1 cm.

Sixth step. Pour the concrete.

You can begin further work 3-4 days after pouring the foundation.

Lay a double layer of roofing felt on the foundation. It will take over the functions of waterproofing and provide reliable protection of the walls of the garden stove from moisture from the soil.

Choose the shape of the barbecue openings. If you want to make rectangular openings, select the material for arranging the lintels. An iron corner will do. If the opening is designed in the form of an arch, make a template in advance for laying out the arch. Use boards to make a template.

Having dealt with the nuances described above, proceed to masonry work. The type of bricks, patterns, various inserts and other decorative solutions are at your discretion. In the manual in question, the stove is laid out in a style similar to the design of the house.

Lay out the bottom tier. Lay the walls in half a brick, not forgetting to leave openings. Use cement mortar to hold the bricks together. Lay out the walls to a height of 60 cm if you plan to arrange an arched opening, or to a height of 80 cm if you decide to make a rectangular opening.

With a similar height of the opening and a couple of rows of bricks on top, the worktop will be located at a meter distance from the base, which is the most convenient option for work. If your height differs noticeably from the average, adjust the height of the table to suit your needs.

If you decide to make a rectangular opening, place a metal corner on the last row of masonry in accordance with the diagram, and then lay out the walls of the stove around the perimeter. If you want to arrange an arched opening, first install a template for laying the vault.

If a sink will be installed, at the same stage lay a pipe in the wall of the stove. You will run the water supply hoses through it.

Lay out the walls to the desired height. In the example under consideration, the height of the walls is 0.9 m. Make the top row of masonry with a slight protrusion outward. Thanks to this, a step is formed inside, allowing the installation of formwork for pouring the screed.

For the laying to be successful, carry out it in compliance with the following rules:

  • the seams must be of equal width;
  • the height of the openings must be such that at least 2 rows of masonry fit between their upper edges and the table;
  • The arched opening must be designed with one central brick.

Having completed the arrangement of the lower tier, start preparing the base for the firebox and table. Make a screed. Place the concrete formwork on the previously installed step inside the oven. Cut the boards according to the dimensions of the span. If a sink is to be installed, leave space in the concrete screed to accommodate it. This is done very simply. You just need to avoid blocking the area for installing the sink. Cover it with another kind of formwork, fixed with spacers.

Fill the screed and leave it for three days. After the specified time, dismantle the formwork of the sink opening.

Cover the countertop with a material of your choice. For example, solid slabs of marble are perfect - they are both beautiful and convenient.

The second tier of the barbecue oven consists of a combustion chamber and walls that cover the area from prying eyes from the street. With partitions, everything is extremely simple - these are ordinary solid walls, laid out in half brick. If you want, you can completely refuse to arrange them. The procedure for constructing the firebox deserves special attention.

Fire brick

Furnace arrangement

The furnace firebox has a two-row design: the outer row is made of ordinary ceramic bricks, the inner row is made of refractory material.

Lay the firebox in the standard way. The recommended parameters are as follows:

the height of the firebox opening is 7 rows plus an arch, or 9 rows in the case of a rectangular opening;

  • firebox depth – about 600 mm;
  • width – about 700 mm.

Having laid out the opening of the combustion chamber, add a couple of additional rows of masonry on top and proceed to arrangement.

To achieve the required chimney width, successively reduce the length of the combustion chamber walls. The back and front edges need to be shortened by half a brick in each next row. The side walls should be reduced by 25% of the width of the brick. According to this pattern, you need to lay out about 7 rows. Then you can begin to arrange the chimney pipe. It should have a rectangular shape. The recommended height of the structure is 12-14 rows.

At this point the fireplace is ready. To avoid any problems during this step, follow these recommendations:

  • do not make the firebox opening too high. 7-9 rows are enough. Otherwise, the draft in the chimney will become too weak, as a result of which all the smoke will go into the area and not into the sky;
  • The inside of the firebox must be lined with fire-resistant bricks. Otherwise, the masonry will simply crack under the influence of temperature changes;
  • The chimney should also not be too high, because because of this, cravings will worsen;
  • Make sure that the bottom of the combustion chamber is as flat as possible - this will make it much easier for you to clean out ash in the future.

Finishing touches

The barbecue is almost ready. Finally, do the following:

  • install the faucet and sink;
  • connect the water supply and intake hoses;
  • cover the countertop with finishing material (optional). The best finishing option is natural;
  • Lay out the area in front of the stove with paving slabs.

If you want, set up a table and a couple of benches next to the barbecue. Additionally, in such a situation, it is recommended to think about arranging a canopy.

Now you know how to build a barbecue oven. The presented unit will allow you not only to cook delicious dishes, but also to burn leaves and other small debris - the barbecue copes with all tasks perfectly.

The countertop and sink will make the stove as convenient to use as possible. You don't have to run into the house to prepare groceries - everything can be done in one place.

The free space under the table is suitable for storing firewood. Here they will always remain dry and well ventilated, which will prevent the wood from becoming damp and rotting.

Good luck!

Video - Do-it-yourself barbecue oven

When installing a major brick stove in a summer kitchen, you should remember that any stove increases the fire hazard and requires compliance with all construction standards and regulations. This means that for its construction it is necessary to use a special refractory fireclay brick, which is resistant to high temperatures, but at the same time is an excellent thermal conductor, warming up the room quite quickly. It is important to properly ventilate the stove. At the stage of constructing the foundation, it is necessary to lay out this area with bricks in the place allocated for the furnace. Also, in the future, when constructing a roof, it is necessary to provide for the installation of an exhaust pipe to remove heat and smoke, etc. from the working area.

Barbecue oven fired with coal
Wood-fired barbecue oven

The barbecue oven can run on electricity, gas or burn coal and wood. Outwardly, it is very similar to a fireplace with a combustion chamber, which is usually located at the level of a person’s waist. A barbecue requires a reinforced foundation, and it is also important to properly install a hood through which heat and smoke will be removed.

BBQ oven with hob in the photo

A barbecue oven can have different configurations - it may include an ordinary hob or oven, a grill or barbecue, a countertop, a place for firewood and storage of utensils. There are such designs that include not only a barbecue, but also a tandoor, a cauldron, a smokehouse and other elements.

If you need a multifunctional large barbecue oven, it is better to resort to the help of professionals, but a small oven can be built with your own hands.

There are many options for prefabricated barbecues and brick ovens. Based on the presented models, you can build something according to your own design. The main thing is to arrange everything correctly to minimize the risk of fire, especially when building a stationary brick oven indoors.

A homemade brick barbecue is a more solid version of a stationary barbecue for arranging a summer kitchen.

BBQ oven in the photo

It will become an excellent decoration and, of course, will allow you to prepare more delicious and varied food. Before you build a brick barbecue, you need to know that it is also called a “barbecue”, and in the standard design plan it should include three compartments.

Of course, the construction of such a barbecue will cost more, but the meat obtained on bricks is much tastier and healthier. Durable and high-quality brick is quite expensive, but you can save money by doing all the work on building the barbecue yourself. In this case, we will describe the simplest version of a brick barbecue, which you can easily build yourself, even without much experience.

The presented option of how to build a brick barbecue with your own hands can be changed by using your own dimensions of the parts or adding some additional functional elements to the design. You can build a canopy over the barbecue stove to protect it from the rain, and nearby set up a dining room under a tree, or install such a stove inside the summer kitchen or outside not far from it.

In the latter case, the summer kitchen itself will contain all the necessary kitchen equipment, as well as a sink and a refrigerator. It is even more convenient to place a barbecue oven outside the summer kitchen - there is less risk of fire, it will not be so hot to cook in the oven in the open air, and the inside of the summer kitchen will remain cool, unless it is planned to be used in winter - then, naturally, the oven is installed inside .

First you need to choose a convenient place for the barbecue oven. If it is to be installed outside, it is necessary that the distance from the stove to the house or kitchen is not large, since during cooking you will have to constantly bring something from the kitchen - dishes, water, etc.

When choosing a barbecue design, you need to pay attention to the style that is most suitable for the architecture of all buildings on the site. It is imperative to determine in advance the size and design of the stove, where it will be placed (in an open space or inside a summer kitchen), what kind of foundation is required for it (depending on the components of the structure).

Also at the preparatory stage, it is necessary to think about the lining of the firebox, take into account the shape and height of the chimney, whether the stove will be equipped with an additional oven or smokehouse, what fuel is planned to be used (coal, wood, electricity, gas).

There are really a lot of questions - is it necessary to build a canopy to protect the stove from rain, an additional table and wind protection? And also, what facing material will be used, whether to install a heat reflector and a tray under the coal, what will be the design of the spit, grate or brazier, will there be cast iron inserts.

All this needs to be thought out in advance and then be sure to draw a general view of the barbecue, drawing individual details and indicating their sizes. You should also find a place to place the shelves in advance, as they should fit well with the appearance of the barbecue. It is also necessary to provide space for storing utensils and supplies of coal or firewood.

Barbecue grill
Barbecue grill

When drawing up a barbecue plan, first of all, you need to take into account that the structure must be stable. It is also important to properly position the barbecue (for grilling). It should be at such a height that it is as convenient as possible for cooking. Typically, the grating is installed at a height of 9-10 rows of brickwork.

If the grate is too low, you will have to bend over while cooking, which is very inconvenient. And if you put the grate too high, you will have to reach high, and at the same time your face will constantly be close to the burning coals.

The grate and coal tray must be installed on brick ledges or metal rods. They must be removable, since they must be periodically cleaned of rust and stored in the house for the winter.

In a barbecue, you can use a regular stove grate. It should be borne in mind that it should be larger than the hearth with burning coals, so that the finished barbecue can be moved to the side next to the hearth, but at the same time keep them hot. The roasting rack must be protected from the wind. Under it there should be another grate, with smaller cells, on which burning coals will be located, and under it a tray into which burnt coals will fall.

Watch how to set up a brick barbecue with your own hands in the video, where all types of production elements are presented and advice from the masters is given:

Diagram, laying and ordering of a brick barbecue with your own hands

Laying a brick barbecue consists of several stages - choosing a location, drawing up a barbecue plan, building a foundation, erecting brickwork with the installation of all structural details, constructing a pipe, cladding and designing the building.

To lay a brick barbecue with your own hands with three compartments, you will need the following materials and tools:

  • sand;
  • cement;
  • gravel;
  • reinforcing mesh;
  • brick;
  • ceramic tile;
  • Master OK.

Currently, you can buy ready-made kits for arranging a barbecue oven. The standard set includes the barbecue grill itself, a charcoal tray and fasteners. These kits can be used when building a brick barbecue with your own hands.

What the foundation of the furnace will be depends on its size. The do-it-yourself brick barbecue scheme allows for the possibility of making a concrete strip foundation, but for a more massive structure a tiled one will be required.

The foundation completely hardens approximately 2 weeks after pouring the concrete, and only after that can you begin to build the barbecue itself.

First, you need to lay 2 layers of roofing felt on top of the foundation to protect the structure from moisture, after which you can begin laying the brick stove. In this case, we are considering the option of a standard barbecue consisting of three compartments. From brick you will have to lay out a figure in the shape of the letter “W” with 4 partitions. What kind of brick barbecue will turn out, the order and diagram can be shown in advance by carefully examining the barbecue construction plan.

The rows must be laid out in a certain sequence - each next row must be shifted in relation to the previous one in a checkerboard pattern. This is the so-called half-brick masonry, which should provide the necessary bond of brickwork. Even before starting the laying, you need to tighten the cords indicating the position of the future wall of the barbecue, and use a trowel to apply a layer of mortar. This needs to be done along one of the walls. Then you should make small grooves in the mortar and begin laying the first row of bricks, checking it with a horizontal level.

In total you will need to lay out 8 such rows. If you plan to place a sink in the 3rd compartment, you need to leave a hole for the drain in the 6th row.

First, it is necessary to build floors that unite two adjacent compartments of the future structure. To do this, you need to cut off the metal corners of the required length and put them on top, and then make the same, but continuous ceiling of bricks in one row. To lay the 2nd layer, you must definitely use a heat-resistant clay mixture intended for ovens and braziers, since it is impossible to make a reliable grill using cement alone.

STEP #1
STEP #2

STEP #3
STEP #4

STEP #5
STEP #6

The most difficult stage of the work is laying the furnace itself. This can be an ordinary rectangular direct-flow furnace without a blower. The thickness of its back wall should be three bricks. There must be room in the front for a door. On the side where the oven will adjoin the brazier, you should leave a hole the size of two bricks.

It is necessary to make protrusions for the roasting grate and the charcoal tray. When building a brick barbecue with your own hands, order is very important. When laying the 5th row, you need to form a supporting ledge, and then lay the 6th row of bricks across - the entire row of bricks should protrude from both sides of the wall. The next three rows again need to be laid in half a brick. In this way, protrusions for the grate and tray are formed.

Sometimes it happens that there is no pallet of the required size that would fit the width of the brick projections, and then a metal shelf can be used to support it.

Then, in the 10th row, you need to build another ledge and add three more rows on top using the spoon dressing method - this is the end of the main part of the barbecue.

If the stove design will use metal rods to support the barbecue, then during laying between the 6th and 7th rows, these metal rods must be laid out in all three walls. This should be done in such a way that the rods protrude from the walls by 70-75 mm and a grill with a tray can be installed on them.

The rods must continue to be laid until the 10th row in each subsequent row. This is required in order to install the roasting rack at the required height.

After this, all that remains is to lay out a rectangular roasting pan and make a pipe of any shape. This arrangement of brick barbecues is used in all such structures without exception.

It is also necessary to arrange a barbecue work surface. The simplest way is to build a low - 6 rows high - brick wall.

This building must be done on a separate strip foundation, which is poured parallel to the side walls. Such a small wall is called a plinth wall. You need to lay it out so that the brick rests side by side.

After this, you need to cut a sheet of plywood and lay it between the side wall lip and the baseboard wall. Lay boards on the sheet and cover them with tiles or ceramic tiles. You can even use ordinary paving slabs to cover the working surface.

Expert advice

After completing the construction of the barbecue and its working surface, it is necessary to begin processing all the seams. To do this, use cement mortar, which needs to be filled in all the seams and rubbed in thoroughly. Before the solution hardens, it is necessary to run jointing along the seams to give them roundness. If the craftsman does not have jointing at his disposal, this can be done using a regular cutting of a garden hose.

If the plinth wall will be connected to the main structure, then up to the sixth row the structure must be built in the form of the letter “E”, and then continue laying the side and rear walls of the barbecue itself. As a result, a niche is formed under the grate with a tray, which can then be used to store charcoal or firewood. If this opening is equipped with a door with a handle, it will be quite possible to store dishes here.

With this, the main functional part of the stove will be built, and then the structure can be supplemented with various shelves and other elements, decorated at your discretion, etc.

The constructed furnace must “settle” for several days for the solution to completely harden. If you light a fire in it before the solution dries completely, its walls may crack.

In the future, when using the stove, it is necessary to clean the barbecue after each cooking so that dirt and grease do not accumulate, otherwise in the future you will have to thoroughly clean the stove.

DIY construction of a barbecue oven with a brick grill (with photo)

The construction of a brick barbecue does not necessarily always involve the monolithic construction of all structures. You can build a brick barbecue oven with your own hands in the so-called temporary version. This is convenient if there is no space to build a permanent, stationary structure. If necessary, such a stove can be disassembled and folded for storage in a specially designated place, and then reassembled. This is easy to do, since such a furnace is built without the use of cement or clay mortar. This is the cheapest and fastest to build brick barbecue structure. At the same time, it is very effective, because bricks laid without mortar freely allow oxygen to pass through, which promotes better and complete combustion of charcoal.

The shape of such a barbecue can be rectangular
The shape of such a barbecue can be round

The shape of such a barbecue can be round, triangular, square, rectangular or hexagonal. You can choose any form - it will depend on your own wishes.

Look at the photos on the page, which are built in a temporary design and at the same time allow you to cook any dishes over an open fire:

Brick barbecue with grill
Brick barbecue with grill

To build a brick barbecue you will need the following materials:

  • boards for formwork (unedged);
  • roofing felt;
  • fire-resistant brick for cladding;
  • clinker matching the color of the brick;
  • cement mortar;
  • metal pipe with a diameter of 15 cm;
  • edged boards for tabletops;
  • sheet of metal to cover the cutting table;
  • grill grate;
  • metal tray for coal.

To build a round barbecue you will need about 100 bricks, and for a different barbecue shape - a little more.

First you need to select a site and build a strip foundation on it. It should dry for about 3 days, then you need to put roofing felt on it and only then you can start building the walls of the stove. You need to lay out the first row of bricks according to the desired shape, leaving small gaps of about 5 mm between all the bricks. The next row is laid with a shift of half a brick to ensure the strength of the wall.

When five rows have been laid out in this way, a metal tray for coal is installed. You need to lay two more rows of bricks on top, and a roasting rack on them. Next, you need to add an arch in the form of a brick gazebo to protect from the wind, that is, build protective walls on the sides and behind the barbecue.

The standard height of such a building should be 9-10 rows of bricks. You can install a tabletop next to the stove to make it more convenient to prepare food; nearby there is a table, benches, and a chaise longue.
